Many changes have been made by Vesica Piscis Footwear as far as their product packaging is concerned, both in the design and in the materials used, avoiding waste with the aim of obtaining a much more sustainable form of packaging.
Contributing to savings in cardboard, as well as reducing the amount of fossil fuels used for transport and visibly reducing the environmental impact that their consumption has on the ecosystem.
When designing the individual shoebox, we also took into account transport from the box manufacturer to Vesica Piscis Footwear. As a consequence, the boxes are assembled by hand on our premises, without the use of any adhesives, thus reducing cubic capacity by 90% and therefore reducing deliveries by the same amount.
Another unique characteristic of our shoebox is the material used to make it; 100% recycled cardboard made up of sheets of paper compacted together with water, no chemicals and no added subtances, the perfect cardboard for recycling.
The ink used for stamping the boxes is a water-based ink which neither contains PVC nor phtalates - harmful chemical products derived from petroleum.
When packing our shoes we do not use any additional paper for wrapping or separating them, as can normally be found in shoeboxes and which is completely unnecessary. By doing this, we save around one tonne of paper every 34,482 pairs, also saving 2,000,000 litres of water per tonne.
As with almost everything used by Vesica Piscis Footwear, we try to prioritise the use of recycled materials in every item we produce. The information label that we use on both individual and transport boxes is also recycled and certified by DER BLAUE ENGEL, the top and most long-standing environmental certificate for non-food products. The Recycling-Plus labels are made of 100% recycled paper and with solvent-free adhesives.
The boxes used to send large quantities are made of ondulated cardboard. This is the best alternative that we have at present and is 100% recyclable.
To seal the boxes for transport, we use Kraft paper tape with natural rubber adhesive. As well as being the most sustainable option, this also makes it easier to recycle the packaging in its entirety.
With all of the measures mentioned above, we have managed to minimise greatly the environmental impact that our packaging has on the planet, although this does not mean that we have stopped looking for new ways to improve it by a long shot!
